Please join RE/MAX Platinum and the Relay for Life team at Brighton High School this Saturday, 7878 Brighton Road. The event begins at 10 a.m. Saturday May 19th and continues until Sunday morning. The goal of Relay for Life is to keep one team member on a pathway or track throughout the entire event.

The opening ceremony starts off the Relay for Life, which is an inspiring sight to see with the Survivors Lap and breakfast following. At 6 p.m., the Fight Back Ceremony is scheduled followed by the Birthday/Survivor Celebration at 7:30 p.m. Relay participants commit to fighting the disease and saving lives through research, plus honor those who have survived to celebrate another birthday – a real blessing.

At dusk, around 9:30 p.m., the wonderful Luminaria Ceremony sets the track aglow honoring people who have lost loved ones to Cancer. Paper bags filled with sand hold lighted candles, each one bearing a name. Many participants walk the lap in silence.

On Sunday, May 20th, the pancake breakfast runs from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m. with a...

On Tuesday, May 8th, 73 charter members of the Livingston County 100 Women Who Care met in Brighton. Associate Broker Candye Hinton of RE/MAX Platinum started the group on a firm foundation with help from her fabulous committee – Julie Fisher, contributions; Kayia Hinton, marketing; Mary Novak, media; Kelly Ondersma, membership; and Cheryl Rogers, charities.

The founder of 100 Women Who Care, Karen Dunigan, first had the brilliant idea that busy women would prefer avoiding the work of bake sales, spaghetti dinners and the like and just write a check for a worthy charity or cause. And it works, because groups all over the country are helping their local communities. After a one-hour meeting, 100 women raise $10,000!

Candye Hinton hopes that will come true next week. Yesterday’s first meeting raised $7300. Three women gave five minute presentations for worthy charities before a vote was taken. The women chose Mission House of Fowlerville, a fledgling charity created to assist area youth, ages 9-12, to stay off drugs...

I love looking at houses. I often stop at open houses on a whim (even though I’m not in the market), and one of my favorite warm-weather activities is cruising around at night, catching glimpses into people’s homes through open windows.

The window-peeping is all very innocent, I assure you; my interest is done from street-level in my car, and my intent is totally research. I check out the colors people are painting their rooms, and I get landscaping ideas from green-thumbed homeowners in my community.

As well as inspiring projects at my own home, like lots of people I also love knowing the asking prices of houses, especially those in my neighborhood. In these days of tumbling home valuations, it’s good to keep an eye on what the market is doing.

The Realtor.com app I just downloaded from Realtor.com is a great one for house junkies like me, and it’s sure to become one of my favorites.

Whenever the app is launched, it asks for access to the location of where I am; then, it shows me the homes for sale in my immediate vicinity. That’s a handy tool for everyone, from real estate professionals and legitimate house hunters to house-aholics like me.

RE/MAX Platinum is poised to go where no real estate firm has gone before, which is full-tilt into the digital age with a new website featuring information, trend stories, personality profiles and agent blogs.

The new site — Platinum Online — is unlike any other real estate website. Rather than just a place for customers to get mortgage rates and view listings, the site will serve as a clearinghouse and virtual place for anyone wanting to network, share information, meet people, ask questions and get answers, and gain perspective about all things real estate.

As social media site Facebook explodes, and information gets transmitted instantaneously via Twitter, Joe DeKroub, the principal owner of RE/MAX Platinum, sees great energy and potential in cyberspace.

“It’s like a cocktail party,” he said. “It’s a place to get information, not to sell inventory. It’s a place to socialize, and ask and answer questions.”

The new website, which has been under development for several months, will bring together customers, agents and information in an effort to serve and generate sales leads.
