I am saddened by the decline of Michigan.

I’ve already lost several close friends to other states, and while we stay in touch, it’s never the same with the distance between us.

My wife and I love both of them dearly, and we understand their reasons for looking outside Michigan for better jobs, careers and lifestyle. But while we understand their reasons for looking outside Michigan, it’s still so very hard to cope with the breaking up of families for the wrong reasons. It seems that during the hard times, we should all stick together.

I’ve always respected humans because we’re hunter-gatherers, not flight animals. Yet we’ve got too many people in Michigan running from our problems, rather than staying here to fight for our communities.

Livingston County, in essence a suburb of Ann Arbor, benefits from the amenities there, including world-class medical facilities and entertainment options. Livingston County, too, is poised to reap the rewards of this close relationship. The two communities share a lot, including many outdoor and recreational opportunities.

I recognize the importance of RE/MAX Platinum to be as strong in the Washtenaw...

I knew that when the federal home-buying tax credit expired, home sales would drop. With the credit expiring in April, the drop-off in sales in May was a jaw-dropping 30 percent, the biggest monthly decline in home sales ever.

Sure, that’s a scary number, but I must remind everyone that this remains one of the best times ever to buy a house, even without the tax credit. Prices have adjusted downward and mortgage rates remain extremely low.

Some economists feel that...
