Have you been "Booed" yet? This is just one of the great traditions that take place in neighborhoods across Michigan during the month of October. If you do not know about the art of "Booing," let me explain: 1) Go to the store and buy some Halloween treats and toys and a container to put them in. 2) Take a piece of paper, draw a ghost on it, and put the words “YOU’VE BEEN BOOED” at the top and “Pass this on” at the bottom. 3) Fill your container with the treats and toys along with the paper. 4) Pick one of your neighbors to “Boo.” 5) At night, go to their house, put the filled container on their front porch and ring the doorbell. 6) Run, so they cannot see you. 7) Now it is their turn to “Boo” someone else in the neighborhood.
“Booing” your neighbors is a great way to learn about who lives in your neighborhood and a great way to make new friends.
When my family first moved back to Michigan in 2008, our neighbors chose our house to “Boo” first. It really made us feel welcomed into the neighborhood and the community.
How does your neighborhood “Boo?” Happy Halloween,
