I get asked several times a day about the real estate industry: Are things getting better? Are property values...

As a member of the Howell Downtown Development Authority (Howell DDA), I had the privilege of heading up entering Howell into the running for Michigan Main Street Community Award. Howell is one of 13 communities a part of this unique group within Michigan.
The other communities that are also Michigan Main Street Communities are Boyne City, Calumet, Iron Mountain, Manistee, Scottsville, Clare, Grand Haven, Portland, Owosso, Old Town Lansing, Niles and Marshall.
What is a Michigan Main Street community?
According to the Michigan Main Street website:
“The Michigan Main Street (MMS) Program supports downtowns and traditional commercial neighborhood districts by promoting and implementing the Main Street Four-Point Approach® in communities across the state.
This approach helps build partnerships and collaboration among stakeholders and encourages historic preservation. It promotes environmentally-sustainable redevelopment, integrates communities' cultural assets and fosters entrepreneurial development and downtown living.”
Why does this matter to you?
If you live or do business in Howell or neighboring communities, this is a great thing. Since Howell is a part of this program, it receives assistance in the revitalization of its historic down and traditional neighborhood commercial districts Bringing events and life into downtown areas brings in business, which in turn helps with home values in the area and makes the communities fun and exciting places to live. Tourism also plays a vital role in sustaining and growing a downtown.
Howell continues to do an excellent job in creating family focused fun events for all ages, which include, the Balloonfest, Melon Fest and many others.
Come and support Howell in its downtown revitalization; come down to shop, eat or join in their upcoming events: Howell Historic Day (May 22), Michigan Challenge Balloonfest (June 25-27), Concerts at the Court House (Fridays, July thru August), Howell Melon Festival (Aug. 20-22), Legend of Sleepy Howell (Oct. 23).
