December in Livingston County is packed with festive cheer and community spirit. There’s no shortage of ways to celebrate the season. Check out our guide to some great events this December and make the most of the holidays!

Santa Paws

• Details: Once again, the winter wonderland of Bordines brings back Santa Paws on December 7th and 8th. The holiday season at this local greenhouse is a magical time. During this event, the staff rolls out the background for your holiday photos with friends, families, and of course, your fur babies. Although this is a free event. a $20 donation is suggested. All proceeds go to Bountiful Harvest to help feed those in need throughout the Brighton Howell Area. Free food and drinks will be available throughout the event.

Story Time + More with Kelly DiPucchio

• Details: Join us at 3:00 on Saturday, December 7th for a very special story time with Kelly DiPucchio! Kelly will be reading (and signing) her picture book, The Gingerbread House that Jack's Family Ate. After the story, children will be able to design their own cardboard gingerbread house PLUS take home a free ornament with the purchase of the book!

• Details: Kick off the holiday season with a lively performance of The Nutcracker by the Brighton School of Ballet ballerinas! There are two chances for you to witness this can’t-miss show: Friday, December 6th, and Saturday, December 7th at 2:00 pm. Experience the magic of the holidays with this must-see performance from the local ballerinas. Make a whole day of it by heading to downtown Brighton after the show for dinner and craft cocktails!

Holiday Ladies Night Out

Ugly Sweater Pickleball Tournament

• Details: The 2025 Ugly Sweater Pickleball Tournament presented by Howell Recreations “Deck the Halls” is here this December, 14th 2024 at Oceola Community Center. Wear your ugliest sweater to join in for some friendly competition and a chance to win some sweet prizes. This will be open to 12 teams (level play 2.5-3.0) and 12 teams (level play 3.0-3.5), open to mixed, women’s and men. Level Play 2.5-3.0 games will begin promptly at 1:00pm and follow suit 30 minutes after. Level Play 3.0-3.5 games will begin promptly at 3:00pm and follow suit 30 minutes after. Guaranteed Number of 3 Matches: 3 matches guaranteed. Pre-registration is required!

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or trying dodgeball for the first time, this tournament is perfect for everyone! *Please note- all athletes who are interested in attending the ALL day "Rec the Halls" event at Howell Recreation MUST purchase a wristband at the door. Holiday Paint and Pour

Bad Santa Trivia

Chickadee Chow Down

• Details: This program starts indoors and ends outside. Expect to walk about ½ miles on dirt and gravel paths that may be snowy and icy. The walk will be at a leisurely pace with frequent stops, and will end back at the Kensington Metropark Nature Center. The path is mostly flat and level. No experience is necessary, and the program involves small group instruction.

New Years Eve Party
